Tarneit: Crime and controversy
Tarneit is an outer south-western electorate on the edge of Melbourne’s urban fringe. It’s a safe Labor seat with a high proportion of migrants and young families. The electorate has been in the media spotlight in recent times over allegations concerning youth crime. The seat is currently held by Telmo Languiller who had been speaker of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, until he resigned last year over controversial expense claims. He will not contest the election.
