Expert says Labor’s use of WeChat has been effective
Some of the keenest campaigning in the Melbourne seat of Chisholm has happened on WeChat, the Chinese social media platform.
The seat’s two main candidates, Hong Kong-born Gladys Liu from the Liberal party and Labor’s Taiwan migrant Jennifer Yang, have both been using WeChat to communicate with voters.
In this video, Haiqing Yu, Associate Professor in the school of Media and Communication at RMIT University, says there has been “unprecedented enthusiasm among Chinese migrants in Australia” engaging in topics relating to the Federal Election this year and says Labor has been using WeChat very effectively.
