Why being called the next Messi can hurt, not help
Pressure is a part of professional football (soccer) – that’s a fact.
But could the immense pressure placed on young footballers (by clubs, the media and social media, and by fans) affect a promising player’s performances, and even their mental wellbeing?
In this podcast we discuss how this pressure has, in the past, negatively affected young footballers labelled ‘the next Messi’ or ‘the next Pele’.
