Medevac refugees’ fight for freedom not over
Earlier this year, more than a hundred refugees were released from hotel detention across Australia.
But their future is still unclear with no guarantee they’ll have financial and medical support before being able to stand on their own feet.
University of Melbourne criminologist Claire Loughnan is completing a book on the institutional effects of immigration detention and editing a collection of articles by human rights advocate and former asylum seeker Behrouz Boochani.
Dr Loughnan explains the uncertain future faced by the medevac refugees, to Pam Kiriakidis.
The issues raised in this audio can be explored in more detail at this article in the Conversation.
