Is COVID to blame for low post-lockdown AFL crowds?
AFL fans across Victoria were unable to attend matches in 2020.
But after the longest of 2021’s lockdowns was lifted, crowd numbers have been underwhelming.
While COVID capacity limits are in place, most matches haven’t come close to the threshold or even attendance figures from 2019.
AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said after round one it was “great to see fans at the footy once again”, but what’s stopping more people from going?
