Covid & Racism: On the rise
Despite the multi-cultural nature of Sydney, there has been a rise in anti-Asian racism over the past year. One study found in 300 reports mainstream media content had racialised Covid 19 indirectly, causing a shift in the public’s opinion of Asian-Australians.
Now community groups and leaders, including Newtown MP Jenny Leong and Asian Australian Alliance convenor, Thomson Ch’ng are working together to create awareness of the growing issue. They say this includes fighting a continual racial bias in Australian media.
