June 09 2022: just over twenty one thousand spectators braved a chilly winter night at the MCG to watch the traditional “eight point game” between Port Adelaide and Richmond – the winner of this round 13 match earning 8 coveted AFL Premiership points, and putting the heat on both clubs to fight for a seat in the top eight this September.

Richmond goes into the game in 10th place with 24 points, after having the weekend off during the AFL midseason break, while Port Adelaide is in 12th place with 20 points.

Both sides have their eye on the prize – the winner underneath the spotlights making enormous progress and recovering ground lost by the season’s home-and-away openers (Port Adelaide 0-5, Richmond 1-3).

The stakes are high – either Port Adelaide ultimately ties the score at 6-6- to become the most formidable team outside the top 8 today or Richmond could widen the gap with Port Adelaide to 8 premiership points.
