Awards are deeply embedded in the culture of mainstream journalism, so it’s good to get some practice in if you intend on having a reporting career. You learn a lot about your own story and its gaps and writing when you step back and consider which story you’ll enter. Then you think, could the intro have been better? Should I have had more case studies? Was this best as a news story or a feature? A video or print story? A bit of self criticism and reflection goes a long way to improving your next stories.

Enough of that. Have a great break and start planning early in the New Year for what you’ll enter in 2023.
