Australian native bees are not as well-known as European honey bees and are often taken for granted. While most people can explain what honey bees do and why they are important, the same does not go for our native species. The European honey bee represents one species while Australia has close to 2000. The problem is that while there’s been a surging concern for foreign honey bees, our very own native bees have been overlooked.
