The Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries mentioned that Indonesian fishermen are still not prosperous to this day. This is despite Indonesia being known as a maritime nation with abundant marine resources.
The persistent problems faced by fishermen cannot be taken lightly, as this has resulted in a decline in the number of fishermen each year. Moreover, the interest of young people in becoming fishermen is also decreasing. Parents who have experienced the hardships of working as fishermen tend to avoid passing on their seafaring skills to their children, hoping they can work on land and have a better future.
According to data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in 2017, there were 2.67 million fishermen in Indonesia. However, data from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) indicates that by 2022, the number of fishermen had decreased to just 1.27 million.
Therefore, this documentary will depict the perseverance of fishermen in the Cilincing District who continue to go to sea to meet their living needs, share their grievances, and provide answers for them.
