Congratulations to Brendan Kearns who is the winner of Democracy’s Watchdogs’ 2024 award for investigative journalism.
Brendan, a postgraduate student from the University of Melbourne, looked at how energy drink companies had inserted themselves on university campuses by cozying up to student unions, sponsoring events, hosting promotions and paying students to market to their fellow students. Universities meanwhile look the other way despite policies promoting health and well being.
Brendan win $1000 and a trophy.
Students Filment Ho, Rose Innes, Ryan Bos and James Worsfold were highly commended and will receive certificates.
