It has 113 thousand registered voters and includes the major suburbs of Armadale, Gosnells, Thornlie, Kenwick, Huntingdale, Harrisdale, Piara Waters, Southern River and Byford.
Burt was a new seat created ahead of the 2016 elections and is considered a safe seat for Labor with a margin of 13.4%. MP Matt Keogh has held this seat since 2016 and is the current Minister for Defence Personnel and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs.
The 2025 Declared Candidates are:

In the redistribution of the electoral boundaries in 2024, Burt lost the suburbs of Langford and Beckenham to the electorate of Swan and the suburbs Kelmscott, Mount Nasura and Orange Grove to the electorate of Bullwinkel. But Burt gained the suburb of Oakford and parts of Byford from the Canning electorate. This caused the Labor margin to decline from 15.2% to the still safe margin of 13.4%.
With the redistributions and new developments, election analyst Pollbludger said Burt is ranked fifth highest for mortgages in the country and is ranked ninth for number of young people under 18 years old.
The electoral division of Burt is named after the Burt family, but specifically Sir Archibald Burt, Septimus Burt and Sir Francis Burt in recognition of their significant contributions to the justice system and for wider contributions to public service in Western Australia.
