Petrie’s Greens and One Nation candidates have described a cost-of-living election as they prepare for Saturday’s poll.
One Nation candidate Nicole Shires said families across Australia were doing it tough, with the party planning to cut beer taxes.
“Not only does it affect the hit pocket of the person attending, it affects the public or it affects the hospitality venue,” Ms Shires said.
One Nation also wants to reduce energy bills and fuel taxes.
The LNP have released a similar plan to lower fuel prices.
During their campaign Opposition leader Peter Dutton and current Petrie MP Luke Howarth have focused on halving the fuel excise for motorists to save 25 cents per litre and reducing inflation.
Greens candidate for Petrie Nikil Paul said his party’s plan for reducing the cost of living was housing, education and grocery bills.
“We want to phase out the capital gains discount and negative gearing,” he said.
The Labor Party have also committed to reducing the cost of living through housing programs.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced Labor’s plan to give first-home buyers access to 5% deposits and invest $10 billion into building more housing specifically for first homeowners.
Mr Paul said he has seen how people were struggling financially, especially with medical costs and having to sacrifice their own needs to provide for their families.
“If we can find the money in our [current Government] budget to spend upwards of $13 billion a year on nuclear submarines, we can definitely figure out how to get $3 billion to get mental [health] and dental into Medicare,” he said.
While the Greens are funding their cost-of-living measures by proposing taxing multi-billion-dollar companies, other parties are wanting to use internal avenues.
Ms Shires said One Nation has identified $90 billion in wasteful government spending that will be redistributed to fund tax cuts and ease the cost of living.
“We can put $40 billion dollars back into the pockets of everyday Australians,” she said.
