Labor has won the 2025 Federal Election and will form a majority government, with Peter Dutton losing his seat, as well as the election.
The result was called just a few hours after polls closed around the country, and Anthony Albanese is set to be Australia’s Prime Minister for another term.
Addressing Labor HQ in Sydney this evening, Albanese pledged to continue meeting the values that the Australian people had voted for when choosing his party.
“Together we will serve the values and meet the challenges. Together we will make our way forward with no one held back and no one left behind,” he said.
In the Queensland seat of Dickson, Opposition leader Peter Dutton formally conceded defeat to Labor candidate Ali France who was contesting the seat for the third time.
In his speech he took time to thank his party members and staff as well as his media team, but observed that his party did not do as well as they could have.
“It’s an historic occasion for the Labor Party, and we recognise that” he said.
As the AEC continues to count seats across the country, the past four hours in Australian politics have proved extremely eventful.
