Tim Hutchens, RSPCA chief inspector, says dogs will be better protected against neglect.

When you think about it, dogs have very human-like characteristics.

They sense when their owners are down, they feel happiness, sadness and empathy.

So, it only makes sense that their ability ‘to feel’ is enshrined in law.

The ACT has become the first jurisdiction in Australia to recognise dogs as sentient beings to give them greater protection.
