Broad support for cross-code ban on racist fans

Could a cross-code ban on fans who vilify players help overcome racism in sport?

Adelaide United director of football Bruce Djite made the suggestion after striker Kusini Yengi was subject to racist abuse on his Instagram account.

The abuse followed Yengi’s maiden A-League goal in Adelaide’s March win against Melbourne Victory.

Adelaide Crows assistant coach Nathan Van Berlo has publicly backed the idea of a cross-code ban.

To find out more, Jordan Janssen spoke to senior policy advisor at the AFL Dr Sean Gorman, and cultural diversity consultant and a member of Collingwood FC’s anti-racism steering committee Tasneem Chopra AOM.
