Journalism students from three universities are this year’s finalists in Democracy’s Watchdogs’ award for investigative journalism. Well done to all the finalists. Check out the link for details of the finalists. The winner will be announced on December 8.
The judges were impressed by the quality of the better entries. But some of the entries were not ‘investigative’ as such – more so, straight news stories, or background pieces or lacking sufficient research. Some stories could have benefitted with only minor changes – a tweak here or there. There are no finalists in the video/audio category. There was only one entry and it did not meet our criteria.
The judges are happy to provide feedback to any student who entered. Please contact me if you’d like to chat about your story and how it could be enhanced. [email protected].
This is the fourth year of the award and we are always looking to improve the way in which it is organised. Our two categories are print/online and video/audio. If you think we should have different categories – multimedia, for example, or anything else – please contact me. Or perhaps the conditions of entry or the criteria could be tweaked. Whatever, please email me.
Once again, congratulations to the finalists and thank you to everyone who entered or encouraged others to do so.
